My Wheel Life

I’d rather be reading

I am and always will be a book worm.
There is something about the smell of books that gives me comfort and makes me feel at ease. The moment you could start downloading books on your computer or iPad, I found it sacrilege! Part of holding the book your reading in your hand creates the experience. It’s the moment when you become part of the adventure in the story.

Reading is like music to me. There’s no one particular type of book or genre that I prefer. If it’s a story or an informative guide and it resonates with me, it becomes a part of my collection and it’s a collection that will never be too big. In fact, I am already collecting special editions of my favourite stories and fairytales to pass onto my children. Yup! I’m that into books.

Another thing I love about reading is that its an “all year round” activity. You can cuddle up with a good book during the cold months and you can lay outdoors with a good book when the sun is shining.

I generally have two books on the go, one for the head and one for the heart.
I like to start my days off reading something motivating or inspirational (there’s that yuck word again) and then I like to end my day with a story that will trigger my imagination enabling pleasant dreams and thoughts.

Here’s a few of my favourite self improvement and mystical books I’ve enjoyed so far this year:

Big Magic – Elizabeth Gilbert
If you loved Eat Pray Love (another one of my favourites) then you will adore this book!
Readers of all ages and walks of life have drawn inspiration and empowerment from Elizabeth Gilbert’s books for years. Now this beloved author digs deep into her own generative process to share her wisdom and unique perspective about creativity. With profound empathy and radiant generosity, she offers potent insights into the mysterious nature of inspiration. She asks us to embrace our curiosity and let go of needless suffering. She shows us how to tackle what we most love, and how to face down what we most fear. She discusses the attitudes, approaches, and habits we need in order to live our most creative lives. Balancing between soulful spirituality and cheerful pragmatism, Gilbert encourages us to uncover the “strange jewels” that are hidden within each of us. Whether we are looking to write a book, make art, find new ways to address challenges in our work,  embark on a dream long deferred, or simply infuse our everyday lives with more mindfulness and passion, Big Magic cracks open a world of wonder and joy.

Light is the new black – Rebecca Campbell
Follow what lights you up, and you’ll light up the world.
Light Is the New Black is a guidebook for a new breed of women who are here to be bright lights in the world – modern-day lightworkers, who agreed to be here at this time in history. In order to thrive in this new age, everything we do must be an authentic expression of who we truly are. Light Is the New Black will guide you back home to the callings of your soul, so you can light up the world with your presence.

Rebecca Campbell had her first awakening when she was a teenager, but without anyone to guide her, she ignored her soul’s callings and dimmed her light in order to fit in. Then, just before her 30th birthday, the life she had so consciously created began to crumble around her. It was as if the Universe turned off all the lights, so she had no choice but to rediscover her own. In this book, Rebecca shares her own journey, alongside practical tools to help you reconnect with the core of your being, and channelled messages from the Universe. Once you rediscover what you already know at soul level, you can offer the world something that only you can give.

Moonology – Yasmin Boland
Did you know the cycles of the moon have a huge effect on our health, our mood, our relationships and our work? By understanding these phases, we can work with them to improve and empower every aspect of our lives.
You will also learn affirmations, visualisations, and chants to use during each phase of the moon, and will discover the role of Angels, Goddesses, and Ascended Masters during the New and Full Moons. This is a book for all those wishing to deepen their connection with nature and take their spiritual practice to a new level.

The Light Between Us/ Stories from the after life & lessons from the living
– Laura Lynn Jackson

Laura Lynne Jackson is a wife, a mother, a high school English teacher—and a psychic medium. Where most believe an impenetrable wall divides the world between the living and the dead, Jackson sees bright, brilliant cords of light that pass through a barrier as thin as a sheet of paper. Her gifts tested and verified by some of the most prominent scientific organizations studying paranormal phenomena, Jackson has dedicated her life to exploring our connection to the Other Side, conversing with departed loved ones, and helping people come to terms with loss. In The Light Between Us, she shares her remarkable journey and the lessons in love she’s learned along the way.

Jackson is just a child when she first realizes she is different from her peers. She has tremendous empathy and often finds herself overcome by the emotions of those around her. She has premonitions about friends and family members that leave her feeling helpless, sad, and confused. She confides in her mother—and learns that the gift runs in the family.

For twenty years Jackson leads a double life. By day, she teaches literature to Long Island high school students. At night, in private, she conducts readings that connect people with loved ones who have passed and imparts information with shocking accuracy and insight. And then one day, her two worlds become one and she comes to fully embrace her gift and her purpose.

The Light Between Us provides guideposts for living a rich and fulfilling life. In her beautiful worldview, Laura Lynne Jackson reminds us that our relationship to those we love endures across space and time; that we are all connected and invested in one another’s lives; and that we are here to give and receive love selflessly. Her story offers a new understanding of the vast reach of our consciousness and enlarges our view of the human experience.
